Sanju’s a bald baddie
Sanjay Dutt’s bald, menacing look in the Karan Johar produced Agneepath has shocked one and all. The actor essays the role of Kancha Cheena made famous by Danny Denzongpa in the original.
Ask Sanjay how his character in the remake is different from the iconic one portrayed by Danny and he quips, “In the original Agneepath, Danny saab’s character had hair — mine doesn’t!” Repartee aside, Sanjay adds, “That was one Agneepath, this is another.”
The film also means a lot to Sanjay as the original was produced by KJo’s father Yash Johar, who was known to have stood by the actor through some of his most troubled times. “Yash uncle, my ‘Buddha’ uncle, will be so proud of us,” an emotional Sanju says.
Karan Malhotra, who is helming the Agneepath remake, says the brief while conceptualising Sanju’s badman act was clear: A larger than life villain. “We wanted Kancha to stand out more than anything or anyone else in the film. The bigger the villain, the bigger the film. I am a huge fan of Marlon Brando from Apocalypse Now. I am not comparing Sanjay’s act to it, but he has completely taken the look to the next level as far as I am concerned.” —
