Sarah’s on a high with dream debut

Becoming a success story in Bollywood is anything but easy and VJ Sarah Jane managed to land herself a movie role thanks to her connections in the industry. “My journey in Bollywood hasn’t been struggle-free. Acting isn’t an easy profession, learning to get your emotions in sync with your appearance is very difficult. But I was fortunate to have the support of several people in the industry. Thanks to them I have landed Game.”

Sarah doesn’t elaborate when asked who are the people who helped her, but she chats about starring opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the multi-starrer which also has actors like Kangana Ranaut and Shahana Goswami in it. The actress still can’t believe she is going to be debuting opposite Abhishek Bachchan as this role came very easily to her. “I went to audition for the role and in the evening got a call from the casting agent that the director wants to meet me. Next thing I know, I am reading the script and signing on for the film. After everything was finalised, it still didn’t sink in that I finally got my break, that too opposite Abhishek Bachchan!”
Unlike some co-stars who are difficult to get along with, Abhishek turned out to be a great guy to work with. “He is such a fantastic and charming person,” gushes Sarah, adding, “He is also very helpful.” But Junior B is known to be quite the prankster on sets, was she ever a victim of his pranks? “No, though he is a very humorous person he didn’t play any pranks.” When pressed further, Sarah admits that he did ruin many of her pictures. “Whenever a group of us girls tried to click pictures, he would always try and squeeze into the frame.” She now has a collection of snaps where parts of his arm, legs and jacket randomly pop up.
Female co-stars are nightmares to work with, especially if you are a newcomer, but the girls too were very nice to Sarah. “Shahana is a dear friend so I enjoyed working with her,” says Sarah. And Kangana too was nice. “I really loved Kangna’s work. She is extremely professional in her ways, always on time for shoots. Her attitude towards work is great. We don’t have any scenes together but she was always sweet to me.”
While Abhishek, Shahana and Kangana were easy to get along with, mastering her role in the film was much harder as her character Maya is a girl who has had a very difficult life, full of problems. Since Sarah’s own life has been fun and smooth sailing, it took her some time to relate to Maya. In the film Maya goes through three phases in life — in the first part she is very glamorous, then she goes de-glam and in the final part plays a woman in love.
The role was difficult, but this hasn’t put her off acting as she can’t wait to do more movies and act opposite other big names like SRK, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan and Imraan Khan. Let’s hope Sarah wins the movie game.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
