Satyagraha seems set to succeed
A massive release meant that even opening collections that hovered around the 50 to 60 per cent mark helped Satyagraha gross about `10 crore on Friday itself. With collections continuing to be stable over the weekend, it was estimated that the film raked in over `38 crore (estimated at the time of going to press). In the process, it has outdone the `30 crore opening weekend collections for Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti.
However, it is still to be seen if the collections for Satyagraha remain consistent, and help it cross the first week collections of `54 crore that Rajneeti enjoyed.
Considering that the film belongs to the socio-political genre that has seldom brought in the moolah, it would be fabulous result indeed. The film, mounted on a huge scale and with a massive star cast to boot, might just have what it takes though, to ensure a good run for many more days.
This is also good news for director Prakash Jha, especially since his previous films (Chakravyuh and Aarakshan) hadn’t done too well. With Satyagraha’s success, Ajay Devgn too can leave the disappointment of Himmatwala behind while Kareena Kapoor is assured of better collections than her last release Heroine. The same holds true for Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpai since the weekend collections of Satyagraha have been more than the total collections of their last releases, D-Day and Gangs of Wasseypur, respectively.
What’s to be seen is how much footfall the film enjoys before the advent of Zanjeer and Shuddh Desi Romance this Friday.
