Shah Rukh’s new marketing tool
With the IPL season less than two months away, it’s expected to see Shah Rukh Khan focussing his marketing acumen to resurrect the lost glory of his team Kolkata Knight Riders. And news of King Khan choosing to become the brand ambassador of West Bengal came just in time to kickstart his campaign.
Only a few days ago SRK released the new logo of his team with a new tagline that reads: New dawn, new knights. With Amitabh Bachchan boosting Gujarat tourism, this will be an acid test for Shah Rukh to work the same magic for West Bengal. But does he have the capacity to promote a state whose people don’t like him much after his fallout with the state hero Saurav Ganguly over Kolkata Knight Riders?
An industry insider says, “SRK wanting to promote the state is understandable — he wants his cricket team to get all the attention during the IPL. The only hitch is that SRK’s popularity is much more in the Northern and Western parts of the country, as compared to West Bengal.”
But SRK, on his part, is leaving no stone unturned in this venture. He is scheduled to meet the chief minister Mamata Banerjee and he will also be shooting to promote Sunderbans, Howrah bridge and other landmarks of the state, besides reading some of Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry to the locals.
Will the SRK magic work this time? Watch this space.
