Six Bollywood films vie for Lohri
Prompted by business and tradition alike, Bollywood filmmakers have always chosen to release their films around festive occasions. But January next year could break all records, with as many as half a dozen films lining up for release, all on Lohri, that falls on January 13.
“Six films releasing on one day is simply unprecedented. As of now, Chaar Din Ki Chandni, Ek Deewana Tha and Chaalis Chauraasi have confirmed the date, and It’s My Life, Sadda Adda and Staying Alive are also looking to zero in on it,” informs a trade insider. That would be nothing short of mayhem, with films battling for screen space and show timings.
“Chaar Din Ki Chandni sounds like the best bet, as it’s directed by Samir Karnik, director of last year’s Lohri hit Yamla Pagla Deewana, while Ek Deewana Tha could give Prateik his first major solo hit after the disastrous My Friend Pinto,” says a source. It’s the other four, meanwhile, which are in trouble.
Not only from the two big ones, but also from Players which released a week before, and Agneepath and Tezz which release a week later.
