Slammed for Spidey: Irrfan

If Anil Kapoor was panned for his blink and miss it appearance in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, then Irrfan Khan is facing worse criticism for his turn in The Amazing Spider-Man, with screen time that lasted fewer minutes than even Kapoor’s.

The editor of a noted film magazine commented, “Just what was Irrfan Khan doing in The Amazing Spider-Man? Propagating the stereotype that Indians only get fringe, two-bit roles in Hollywood?” Some of the nastier comments about the gifted actor’s role included this one, from a fan: “Irrfan Khan’s role in the new Spiderman movie is as pivotal as one of the test tubes in the background.”
That doesn’t mean that no support’s forthcoming for Irrfan. An associate of the actor pointed out, “Don’t forget, he will return as the villain in the sequel.”
