Sona enters the big league
After Kareena Kapoor and Asin, Sonakshi Sinha is another actress who’s enjoying her entry into the 100-crore club.
With her second film, Rowdy Rathore, raking in the moolah, Sonakshi can proudly tally up all the zeros in the box office collections of her debut Dabangg, and Rowdy put together. That isn’t all. With Dabangg 2 also slated to be out by the end of the year, Sona is sure to have another century on her hands. “Sonakshi is on a roll and her film choices have paid off for her,” a critic says.
At the same time, her choices are also being questioned because of the preference she seems to have for male-dominated projects, in which Sona herself has very little to do. Whether it’s Dabangg, Rowdy, Son of Sardar, Lootera or Joker, all of her projects have even been named after their male protagonists. Where does Sona figure in all of this?
“Isn’t that the case with most leading ladies?” an aide of Sona’s parries, pointing out that other 100-crore films too have mostly featured the women playing second fiddle. “Sona has only just started off last year, and she’s still being picked by the best in the industry. That says a lot.”
