A song for patriotism

The haunting melody of our national song Vande Mataram has attracted many a filmmaker. The present crop is no exception.
Ram Gopal Varma had generated a lot of controversy when he used the national anthem Jana Gana Mana for a scene in Rann. Ramu then decided to replace it with Vande Mataram.
Now, producer-director Prakash Jha also intends to use the national song in certain scenes in his forthcoming film Rajneeti. But Jha clarifies that they have only used the notes from the song, for some of the rally sequences in the film. “We have not even used the words Vande Mantaram. It’s just in the background score. We did not want another controversy over this,” the director added.
