SRK not a fear factor any more?
When King Khan announced plans for his production Always Kabhi Kabhi, one would have expected no one else to dare release their films at the same time. But that hasn’t quite happened, with almost half a dozen films vying for attention on the same day. Does that mean that the SRK factor doesn’t scare anymore?
A trade analyst says, “It’s surprising to see that despite Shah Rukh Khan announcing his dates, three notable small-budget films —Bheja Fry 2, Bin Bulaye Baarati and Bhindi Baazaar Inc —are ready to take AKK heads on.” Among these, it’s Bheja Fry 2 that’s being seen as the only worthy competitor because its prequel was a huge success.
But Roshan Abbas, director of AKK is unfazed. “My film is not a formula film. In times when films like Tanu Weds Manu, Band Baaja Baaraat, Udaan and Phas Gaye Re Obama are making waves, Always Kabhi Kabhi couldn’t have been better timed,” he says.
We hope, for our own sake, that he is right.
