Sushant to play the legendary Byomkesh
YRF and Dibakar Banerjee have roped in Sushant Singh Rajput to play the title role in their upcoming film Byomkesh Bakshi — based on the popular detective character that was later adapted as a television series in the 90s. This is the first in a series that will feature Bengali best-selling writer Saradindu Banerjee’s creation in a Hindi feature film.
“Sushant has that dormant volcano thing about him that is just right for my Byomkesh,” says Dibakar about his leading man. “He looks so quiet, so self-absorbed and withdrawn. Sushant loves challenges and that is his USP,” he says, adding, “We are rebooting Byomkesh. Right back to his first case. I had plans of naming the film Byomkesh Begins.” In a contemporary interpretation of war-torn Calcutta during the 1940s, the film follows the first adventure of Byomkesh, fresh out of college, as he pits himself against an evil genius out to destroy the world. “It’s his wit against the most villainous arch criminal the world has seen, in a world of murder, international political intrigue and seduction,” adds Dibakar.
