Unconventional should be Anurag Kahsyap’s middle name. The director, who is credited with bringing experimental cinema into the Bollywood mainstream, is proving yet again that he doesn’t care a whit when it comes to defying the accepted norms in filmmaking.

For his upcoming film Ugly, Anurag has asked his cast — Rahul Bhatt, Ronit Roy and Surveen Chawla — to commence shooting for the film, without giving any of them a brief. While a bound script and a narration is de rigueur these days for any actor and filmmaker about to embark on a project, Anurag has chosen to take a different path.
“Most actors are scared of experimenting. The fear mars the impact of their performance. I like spontaneity. The ‘homework’ kind of performances are jaded and boring. I wanted to break the monotony and that’s how I got the idea of trying out this formula,” said Anurag, confirming the news.
