Unveiling Players’ most debonair player

When it comes down to the glamour quotient, it seems our older generation of actors still rule the roost. What else would explain the fact that while Players has a good-looking star cast in Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu, it is Vinod Khanna who is walking away with all the attention?
Now Khanna saab has always been known for his debonair looks, but ever since he waved goodbye to Bollywood, his comeback roles have been few and far between: A bit part in Tell me Oh Kkhuda and Dabangg. But when Abbas-Mustan took up their remake of The Italian Job, they knew it was only him who could do justice to the role.
“Anyone who wants Khanna saab to act in a film now should be prepared to hear ‘no’,” a source said. “And while he liked the script for Players, there was a hiccough as he fell sick and didn’t want to hold up the shoot of the film.”
But the director duo was adamant. “We just told him ‘nothing doing’,” says Mustan. “For this pivotal character, it had to be him and only him.”
Touched by the gesture, Vinodji agreed to shoot as soon as he was on the way to recovery. Now, isn’t that a sweet story?
