Vidya Balan is raring to go
From playing a casually attired mum in Paa to being raunchy sex siren Silk Smitha in Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan has managed to pack in a surprise in each film.
The actress will be seen in a line-up of strong women centric movies this year — right from the remake of Satte Pe Satta to Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahani, apart from Dirty Picture where she is essaying Silk Smitha’s roles.
That’s not all, she has also done special cameos in Dum Maaro Dum and a sword-wielding item number in Santosh Sivan’s Urumi.
While Vidya is flirting with the camera and her on screen characters, there’s another side to her. “I am very shy in my personal life. I just can’t open up. Initially, when I did those bold scenes, I would hesitate and wonder what my parents or my friends would say. But as soon as the camera is switched on, I am a completely different person. The actress in me comes to the fore and I just forget that I am Vidya Balan,” she says.
“Cinema is going through a lot of change now and the audience is ready to accept such movies. All my roles are so different from one another. While I will be wearing stilettos and doing sexy numbers in Dirty Picture, I will also be doing a bit of belly dancing in Urmi. I am not a switch-on, switch-off artiste, I need a lot of inputs and I torture my directors when it comes to my roles. In fact, I am looking forward to doing a mad comedy now,” adds Vidya.
