Vidya is mad over Mads

Vidya Balan, having tasted unprecedented success with The Dirty Picture, has created a niche for herself in Bollywood now. But for an actress who struggled through her initial years trying to find a foothold, Vidya is today even proving to be a source of inspiration to many youngsters. What about her own inspiration though? Vidya thanks the original Dhak Dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit, for inspiring her to come to Bollywood.

Says Vidya, “When the song Ek Do Teen was released in the late 1980s, I was mad about Madhuri Dixit. I would stand in front of the mirror and dance all the time. I would just wait for an opportunity to start dancing. I was very eager. I believed that I was a junior Madhuri Dixit, and I actually wanted to be like her!”
The actress remembers that it was this motivation that pushed her into the profession. “I feel the film Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon was so true, because half the nation felt like that at that time… and I was one of them. This desire kept evolving. I don’t know at what age it started but ever since then, I have had that acting keeda in me,” she recalls.
Well, considering Madhuri herself is back in tinseltown, how about having the two match steps? Mentor and protégé, dancing together…
