Why Akki didn’t play Milkha role
Reports of late have talked about Akshay Kumar regretting his decision to turn down Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s runaway hit (no pun intended), Bhag Milkha Bhag.
While Rakeysh had restricted his comments on the issue to saying that he’d never wanted an actor with a certain image for the biopic, Mikha Singh himself had let the cat out of the bag, in a sense, saying that he wanted his fellow Punjabi (Akki) to essay the role.
Now we hear that the deal between Rakeysh and Akki fell through because of an issue with the remuneration. “The success of Akshay’s films has strengthened his commercial viability. His steady box office record gives him the liberty to demand his market price. And the makers of BMB found the amount quoted by Akshay a bit too much,” a little birdie told us.
Now we hear that Akki knew that Rakyesh’s film would make huge profits as the script was one of the best he had read. All Akki wanted to do was ensure that he too gained from BMB’s success, our source added.
Unfortunately, things didn’t really work out as per Akki’s plans. Playing Milkha on screen might have taken his career to critically acclaimed heights — but then again, choosing money over films (or vice versa) is an actor’s prerogative.
