Why is Karan a nervous man?
Karan Johar should be a very happy man considering the enviable record he has set at the box office with the back-to-back successes of Agneepath and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. But looks like his own success streak is giving him the nerves, because now Karan is feeling pressurised to have a successful comeback with his directorial venture Student of the Year.
A close associate of the director-producer says, “Between Agneepath and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, there have been collections of over `200 crores in India and overseas. Now Karan has to make sure that Student of the Year also turns out to be a money-spinner.” Considering both his directors — Karan Malhotra and Shakun Batra — were first timers, the pressure on Karan is mounting. But industry insiders are optimistic about Karan’s potential. “Even though his film features three newcomers, the brand ‘Karan Johar’ has to come into play. He knows that all eyes are on this film and he is well prepared for it,” says a trade analyst.
As of now Karan hasn’t even announced a release date for his film. But he has to be on his guard. After all a mentor cannot afford to be outshone by his protégés.
