Will YRF call Parineeti’s bluff?

If there is one thing the Chopras value almost as much as talent, it is loyalty. From Ranveer Singh to Anushka Sharma, whoever has done well for Yash Raj Films, has done well mainly only for YRF. Even the actors, on their part, don’t mind displaying fidelity to YRF; they are, after all, the biggest production house in the industry and always get the big Khans to work for them.
So imagine our surprise, when we saw Parineeti Chopra — all of one film old — sending out feelers to rival camps. On Thursday afternoon, a nervous Parineeti was spotted waiting outside producer Rohan Sippy’s office in Lokhandwala. Considering Parineeti was launched by YRF in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, and they have been looking after her career ever since, is it even wise for her to scout for options elsewhere?
“Her first solo release Ishaqzaade, also with Yash Raj, is about to release shortly. She has been a complete YRF protégé until now, and she should ideally wait for Ishaqzaade to release before deciding on the next phase of her career. Anushka Sharma, who, like her, was launched by YRF, patiently waited for the production house to chalk out her career, and Parineeti should allow the same to be done to her as well. Being impatient can have an adverse effect on her career,” says a source close to her.
Parineeti, the cousin sister of Priyanka Chopra, received a lot of glowing reviews for the role in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. On Thursday afternoon, dressed casually in a black T-shirt and red pants, she looked glowing as she met Rohan. The buzz about town is that the duo is in talks for a magnum opus. In the past, Priyanka has worked with Rohan on Bluffmaster, and maybe younger sis wants to renew the connection.
“Maybe she wants to have the best of both the worlds. I think it’s perfectly fine. She is young and ambitious. She can afford to take the risk,” says a source close to her. Wonder how YRF will react to Parineeti’s hasty career move?

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
