BSE Sensex opens 60 pts lower in opening trade
Mumbai, July 22: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today opened 60 points lower as investors sold stocks following weak Asian markets.
The 30-share index moved down by 60.38 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 17,916.85 points.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 25.40 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 5,373.95 points.
Brokers said investors sold stocks to book profits after recent gains. Weak trend in the Asian markets following yesterday's weakness on the US market also dampened the trading sentiment, they added.
Stocks of Infosys Technologies traded 0.49 per cent lower at Rs 2,751.90, while Tata Consultancy Services fell by 0.59 per cent to Rs 835.15.
Among other losers, Reliance Industries was down by 0.33 per cent to Rs 1,054.75, ONGC by 0.54 per cent to Rs 1,262.40, ICICI Bank by 0.78 per cent to Rs 895.75, State Bank of India by 0.
