30 Indian companies participate in Project Qatar
Thirty companies from India under the auspices of ASSOCHAM took part in the international trade exhibition ‘Project Qatar 2013,’ making it the largest-ever participation of Indian firms in the event.
The recently concluded event titled the tenth International Trade Construction, Building, Environmental Technology & Materials Exhibition saw Indian firms being led by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
“Indian companies at earlier exhibitions came individually, but the embassy had highly recommended an increased participation in Project Qatar from India because we consider the promotion of business from both sides as among our foremost priorities,” Sanjiv Arora, Indian ambassador to Qatar was quoted as saying by Qatar-based English daily The Peninsula.
The participants also included some firms that are already operating in Qatar, the report said.
The ambassador lauded Qatar’s contribution to India’s energy requirements while welcoming increased business cooperation between the two nations.
“Besides the import of LNG from Qatar, which is currently at 7.5 million tons per annum, trade in non-hydro carbon sectors is also showing positive trends,” Arora said.
“We welcome Qatar’s investment in India. Our investment requirements are huge. In the infra-structural sector alone, India needs an investment of $1 trillion in the next five years or so,” he added.
Trade between India and Qatar was an estimated $13.70 billion during 2011-2012.
