About 200 firms to participate in fashion jewellery fair
As many as 200 firms will display a wide variety of jewellery and accessories at the Indian Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Fair, starting July 12.
The items to be showcased include fashion and costume jewellery, imitation jewellery, fashion accessories, semi-precious jewellery along with accessories like handbags and shoes.
The three-day fair, organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), would be inaugurated by textiles minister K. Sambasiva Rao, the council said in a release.
The objective of the fair is to increase the country’s share in the $16.3 billion global fashion jewellery market. At present, India’s share in this segment is negligible.
At Indian Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Fair, the buyers will have the opportunity to discover the finest in the Indian craftsmanship and artistic finish in perfect harmony with modern designs, contemporary colours and new product development under one roof, the release said.
“The council has been organising IFJAS on an annual basis and the export fortunes of this segment have got a significant boost. The year-on-year growth of fashion jewellery alone over the last three years has been a noticeable factor.
“The US is the largest importer, while the UK continues to be the second largest buyer. This sector has tremendous potential to expand further,” EPCH chairman Lekhraj Maheshwari said. Top importers of jewellery items include countries like US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, Australia and Italy.
EPCH executive director Rakesh Kumar said, “The fair provides global buyers with an apt window to source their requirements and help them in establishing an enduring profitable business relationship with Indian exporters. Organising IFJAS is part of the council’s drive to promote and expand horizons of key verticals of the handicrafts sector.”
The country’s fashion jewellery and accessories exports increased to Rs 2,007 crore in 2012-13 from Rs 1,237 crore in the previous fiscal.
EPCH is the nodal agency for promotion and export of handicrafts, entrusted with the task of projecting India’s image abroad as a reliable supplier of high quality handicrafts.
