Can’t compare to RCom: TTSL
Feb. 14: Tata Teleservices on Monday said that it was wrong to compare them to Reliance Communications and the two other operators who had received a dual technology licence in telecom.
The dual technology licence allows a company using GSM technology to offer CDMA services and vice versa. TTSL said that it was intriguing that Reliance Communications and two other operators had applied and received telecom department’s approval for a dual technology license even before the policy was announced.
In a statement, the company added that it was even more intriguing that R-Com was allotted spectrum in all the circles immediately, while TTSL was awaiting spectrum even after three years. The statement by TTSL had come in response to R-Com’s statement issued on Sunday. In that statement, that ADAG group company had said that the grant of the dual technology license to it was on identical terms to three other firms — TTSL, HFCL and Sistema.
The Anil Ambani group firm has been fighting off allegations that it was favoured in the 2G spectrum scandal, and claims that competitors and corporate rivals are behind the ‘misinformation campaign’.
TTSL also objected to being identified as ‘Shri Ratan Tata group’s Tata Teleservices’ saying that it is not a family run concern, or owned by Mr Tata.
