Built at a cost of over Rs 300 crore by UK-based Caparo Group, a state-of-the-art convention centre 'Ayatti' will open on April 14 at Greater Noida, an area in NCR which boasts of India's only Formula One car racing circuit.

The mega project spread across 21 acres will cater to the growing MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) segment in the country.

"We thought there is a need for a good conference centre in the country, Caparo group chairman and founder Lord Swraj Paul told agencies. He said there is a growing demand for such infrastructure.

"People from all over the world want to have conferences in India. India is becoming very attractive country for the world business," he said.

Set amidst manicured lawns, the convention centre is named 'Ayatti', a derivative of a Sanskrit word that means majestic, noble, inspiring and plentiful. It is being given the finishing touches.

Built with a capacity of hosting a party of 20,000 people, 'Ayatti' comprises a large hall, lounge, 17 meeting rooms, bars, cafes, restaurants, art gallery (12,000 square feet) and residential area (11 villas offering 59 rooms).

It can accommodate around 20,000 people at a time and also has a spa and wellness centre, Paul, who has a passion for small details, added.

Though the group will cater to MICE segment in the country through this project, it does not have any plans to enter the burgeoning hospitality sector, he said. Greater Noida in the National Capital Region (NCR) boasts of India's only Formula One racing circuit.

The first races were held in October last year. The annual calender of these races has the Greater Noida venue.

Besides, the area is set to be hubbing with commercial activities with the Yamuna Express connecting it to Agra, about to open soon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
