City gets CA’s prime R&D hub

Oct. 4: Just a week after a UK-based software major Latens Systems had opened its research centre in Hyderabad, another IT major CA Technologies is now pinning its hopes on India with the inauguration of its $30 million R&D centre in the city on Monday. This centre will be the firm’s largest unit dedicated to R&D in the world.

Speaking at the inauguration of the R&D unit, CA Technologies CEO, Mr William E. McCracken, said: “The new centre will boost the company’s capacity to add an additional 1,000 employees from the current headcount of 1,600.” The company currently has around 14,000 employees worldwide.

The company is hoping to increase its revenues form India, and other BRIC nations. “Currently, 55 per cent of our revenues come from North America, while BRIC nations, Japan, Australia and New Zealand contribute the rest. Our target is to increase our revenues from countries outside North America, specifically from Asia, and hence India is integral for our growth,” he said.

Going forward, he said the company would be looking at both organic and the inorganic routes for growth. Asked if the crackdown on outsourcing in the US would affect its business, Mr McCracken opined that the ban would not affect the company’s prospects, as it was not into outsourcing.
