Dual-listing is a must, says South Africa
South Africa on Friday ruled out any dilution of its stand on dual-listing, which was one of the reasons for the failure of the Bharti-MTN deal last year.
“No”, said South African trade and industry minister, Mr Rob Davies when asked whether his country is prepared to revisit the stand on dual-listing.
His remarks come at a time when there are reports that a top Indian telecom company is again in talks with MTN of South Africa for a merger. Mr Davies said the South African government is neither supporting nor opposing any merger deal but it has to pass the regulatory framework in his country. “There is a proposal for merger that has to go through the regulatory processes in South Africa.
