Escorts announce launch of executive tractor

Escorts Agri Machinery on Thursday announced the launch of India's 'first executive tractor,' aiming to tap the growing premium tractor segment.

The company's CEO S. Sridhar told media here that Escorts is looking at achieving top position in the large tractor segment of over 50 HP, with the launch of its Farmtrac 6060 and Farmtrac 6065 models.

He said the company's foray into the premier segment was aimed at targeting more affluent farmers of India, with informal consolidation of land and farmers in this sector taking up farming as an enterprise, the large tractor segment would command about one-fourth of the market share in the next few years.

"With the launch of these powerful tractors, Farmtrac plans to establish itself as the leader in the premium tractor segment," he said, adding plans were afoot to introduce new variants and products every six months.

The company planned to sell 10,000 units a month from the next financial year, he added.

Shenu Agarwal, Head, Marketing, said large tractor sales constituted about 12 per cent of the 5.25 lakh large market in 2011-12 and said it would grow to 15 per cent in 2012-13 before touching 23 per cent by 2018-19.

The tractors are priced between Rs 7 and Rs 10 lakh and are equipped with modern technology like four-wheel drive and latest fuel systems to ensure better power and output,he said.
