Food inflation down to 9.18 pc
India's food inflation declined marginally to 9.18 per cent for the week ended March 26 as the prices of vegetables and other food items like meat, eggs eased, official data showed on Thursday.
Food inflation was recorded at 9.5 per cent for the week ended March 19.
Limited data on the wholesale price index released by the commerce and industry ministry also showed a decline in the index for primary articles, was almost unchanged from 12.98 per cent in the previous week to 12.97 per cent for the week under review.
However, the fuel index continued to rein unchanged at 13.13 per cent.
Food inflation has been largely range-bound, but higher than the comfort level of the government and the Reserve Bank of India. The annual rate of inflation was also recorded on the higher side in February at 8.31 per cent.
According to a recently released report by global consulting firm Deloitte, consistently high inflation threatened the nine percent growth target set by the government.
