HM hacked to death at home
The headmistress of a panchayat union middle school was found murdered at her house in Aranthangi in the early hours of Monday.
Vaanathi, 46, resident of Karaikudi road, Aranthangi, was serving as headmistress at the panchayat union middle school in Vambarampatti. Her husband Muthukamatchi died some four years ago, sources said.
On Sunday night, Vaanathi and her eight-year-old daughter Nithyashri, were sleeping in a room in the house. The area reportedly experienced power cut from 1.30 am till 3 am. As it was very sultry inside the room, Nithyashri woke up and found her mother missing.
She went to the hall in search of her mother and screamed when she found her lying in a pool of blood at the entrance. Hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed to her house and then informed the police. Vaanathi had been hacked to death indiscriminately.
Senior police officials, including SP Tamilchandran and DSP (in-charge) Vincent, inspected the scene of crime and conducted an enquiry. Experts of the forensic department lifted some fingerprints. The sniffer dog ran up to Perumalpatti, about 2 km from the house.
Aranthangi police has sent the body for post-mortem to the government hospital.
