Ideas brew at coffee shops

Hyderabad: If you run a tech start-up which works on a business-to-business model or your company deals with online content, you don’t have to worry about the office space.Numerous coffee shops in the city are serving as hubs or part-time workplaces for budding entrepreneurs.
The free wi-fi facility in coffee shops like Café Coffee Day or Barista serve as a key element, help entrepreneurs work with ease and quickly on their laptops/iPads and other gadgets. They also help them cut down on costs which are essential for a budding entrepreneur.
According to Murali Bukkaptanam, TiE Hyde-rabad president, these coffee shops or lounges serve as great places to start with. “All you have to do is order for one or two coffees or snacks where you spend about `120 and then can carry on with your work, without being bothered about office space or infrastructure,” he said at SmashUp, a start-up event held by Microsoft and TiE Hyderabad.
Murali, however, added, that “such model can only work if it is a technology start-up or a company that has back-end operations based in the city and can be worked out online.”
Given that budding entrepreneurs struggle with initial capital investments, this can serve as a great push to start-ups at the initial stage.
However, there are companies that also provide rental office space for start-ups. Players like Regus, Plug & Play, LaMakaan and Vatika Business Centre in the city rent out office space.“These places rent out office space and are very good places for entrepreneurs with a small team,” Murali explained.
Even a recent survey has showed that Hyderabad is the world’s second most affordable office market. With Hyderabad having nearly 1,500 start-up companies and office space being affordable, this market is set to grow exponentially, said industry experts and angel investors.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
