Minister in illicit liquor racket?
BJP state president Pon Radhakrishnan on Sunday alleged that a local minister has a nexus with those involved in manufacturing illicit liquor in the district and urged chief minister J. Jayalalithaa to take action.
Radhakrishnan also cited media reports on the recent unearthing of two illicit liquor manufacturing units in the district.
The BJP leader, however, did not give a direct reply to questions about the identity of the minister, but told journalists that they were those who had been involved in manufacturing illicit liquor four years ago.
Radhakrishnan also appealed to the state government not to allow people from other states to protest against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP). If the government allowed the anti-KKNPP people to protest, it should also allow those in favour of the project to raise their voice, he said.
The declaration of one-day power holiday for industrial units was unheard of in the history of the state, said the BJP leader.
If the trend continues, it will pave the way for dredful situations such as industrialists and industrial workers committing suicide, the BJP leader reiterated.
Radhakrishnan also alleged that the ruling AIADMK was abusing its official power.
The AIADMK had never won a single by-election during the DMK regime and was now doing what the DMK had done then, he said.
