Nifty to trade in US from today

The wait is now over for the US investor who wants to bet on the Indian stock market: the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will start trading in Nifty Futures from Monday.
The CME is introducing two new contracts — E-mini and E-micro S&P CNX Nifty (Nifty 50) Futures — designed to access Indian market opportunities. The 50-share Nifty is the benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange, the largest stock exchange in India. The index accounts for 22 sectors of the economy.
Investors would be able to trade for nearly 23 hours on the CME Globex. These hours include market hours in India (except the last one hour before the Indian market opens). “The introduction of these two new contracts will make the Nifty 50 available to a much larger community of traders and investors across various exchanges and time zones,” NSE MD and CEO Ravi Narain had said.
According to NSE, these new contracts are intended to give investors a more efficient way to gain exposure to India-related asset classes.
Under the agreement, inked in March this year, the S&P Nifty has been made available to the CME for the creation and listing of US dollar-denominated futures contracts for trading on CME. Under the deal, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and S&P 500 —the two leading US indices — would be traded on the NSE platform in India. NSE is awaiting approval from Sebi to launch futures contracts in the S&P 500 Index. Asked about the timeframe for the launch of S&P 500 futures in India, the NSE spokes-person told PTI the excha-nge is awaiting regulatory approval and will start after receiving that.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
