Pranab rated as best FM in Asia

New Delhi, Oct. 11: The finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, was named as the Finance Minister of the Year for Asia 2010 by the London-based magazine Emerging Markets said.

The magazine cited his ability to steer the Indian economy through the global financial crisis and balancing strong growth with fiscal responsibility as reasons for picking Mr Mukherjee for the title.

The magazine also rated Mr Mukherjee as the best finance minister in Asia for his initiatives to bring fiscal transparency, fuel price reforms and inclusive growth strategies.

It said Mr Mukherjee kept India on the growth track by injecting stimulus into the economy during the crisis.

This award signals the confidence finance minister has inspired in stakeholders, by his fuel price reforms, fiscal transparency and inclusive growth plans, a finance ministry statement said.
