Rumour on 2G fuels tele stocks

New Delhi, July 9: Speculation about the rejection of telecom regulator’s recommendations on 2G spectrum has boosted the stock prices of telecom companies on Friday. The major gainers were Bharti and Idea.

Trai wanted telecom companies, who have 2G spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz, to shell out money in line with the price discovered through 3G auction.

This step will hurt established telecom players like Bharti, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and MTNL among others who have more than 6.2 MHz in many circles.

The telecom operators had met the telecom minister, Mr A. Raja, on Wedne-sday to express their concern over the recommendations. Thereafter, the telecom department had form-ed an internal committee to look into the concerns of the telecom operators.
