Sensex closes 162 points lower
A benchmark index for Indian equities markets closed 162 points lower on Thursday with realty and metal stocks taking the brunt of the selling pressure. Broader markets too ended in the red.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,532.85 points, closed at 19,285.85 points (provisional), down 162.84 points or 0.84 per cent from its previous close at 19,448.69 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange shut shop at 5,783.8 points, down 0.86 per cent. Broader markets too closed in the red with the BSE midcap index ending 0.96 per cent down and the BSE small cap index closing 0.5 per cent lower.
