Sensex down 36 points in early trade on profit-booking

The BSE benchmark Sensex declined by nearly 36 points in early trade on Wednesday, snapping three-session rising streak, as participants booked profits after recent gains amid a weak trend overseas.

The 30-share barometer, which had gained over 598 points in the last three sessions, fell by 35.91 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 17,200.27.

In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 14.95, or 0.28 per cent, to 5,214.05 points.

Brokers said emergence of profit-booking by funds and retail investors after three sessions of gains mainly dampened the trading sentiment.

Besides, a weak trend on Asian bourses following weak Chinese manufacturing data too had influenced the market.

In Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.02 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei shed 0.99 per cent in early trade today.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.49 per cent lower in Tuesday's trade as investors looked to the Federal Reserve's two-day monetary policy meeting.
