Sensex down 61 points in opening trade on profit-booking
The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by almost 61 points in opening trade on Monday on emergence of profit booking at higher levels.
The 30-share index, which had lost 120 points in the previous session, fell by 61.48 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 18,880.50.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty Index shed 26.35 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 5,720.60.
Brokers said investors indulged in profit booking following a recent rally in the stock market.
They added that the recent upsurge in the markets was on the back of government's measures to support economic growth.
Meanwhile, in Asian region, Japan's Nikkei was up by 0.44 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index shed 0.67 per cent.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.26 per cent higher in Friday's trade.
