Sensex down over 39 points on global cues
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened over 39 points lower than the Tuesday’s close, on selling by funds and retail investors in realty, banking and metal sector stocks, triggered by weak global markets.
The 30-share barometer, which had slid by 97.76 points in the previous session, fell by another 39.33 points or 0.21 per cent to 18,272.26 points in the first five minutes of trading.
The wide-based National stock Exchange, Nifty index dipped below 5,500 points level to trade 16.05 points lower at 5,489.05 points.Brokers attributed the decline to selling pressure following a weak opening in the Asian region after overnight losses on the US markets on disappointing economic data.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index traded lower by 0.09 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei was down 1 per cent in early trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.32 per cent down in Tuesday’s trade.
