Sensex gains 48 points in early trade during special session
The BSE Sensex improved further by 48 points in early trade during a special session on Saturday on sustained buying support from investors, mainly in metal, auto, FMCG and PSU counters.
The BSE 30-share index, Sensex, resumed higher at 17,701.07 and hovered in a narrow range of 17,735.99 and 17,694.83 before quoting at 17,732.06 at 11.30 am, a net gain of 48.33 points, or 0.27 per cent, from its last close.
The NSE 50-share Nifty also moved up by 9.85 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 5,351.95 at 1130 hrs. Major gainers were Cipla (1.98 pct), Sterlite Inds (1.14 pct), Jindal Steel (1.04 pct) and Tata Power (0.83 pct). However, Bhel fell by (1.66 pct) and Bharti Airtel moved down by (0.68 pct).
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 502.17 crore on Friday as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.
Both the stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, are holding a one-and-half hours special trading session from 11.15 am to 12.45 pm as the BSE is testing its disaster recovery site.
