Sensex recovers after initial losses, up 16 pts
Erasing initial losses, the BSESensex moved up by 16 points to 18,771.94 on fresh buying in
healthcare, consumer durables, FMCG and capital goods stock amid capital inflows despite weak Asian advices.
Key benchmark indices moved in positive zone after opening slightly lower on initial volatility.
The BSE 30-stock index, Sensex, resumed lower at 18,749.37 and dropped further to 18,737.13. But, it recovered to 18,792.34 before quoting at 18,771.94 at 1030 hrs, up 16.49 points of 0.09 per cent from its previous close.
The NSE 50-share barometer Nifty also moved up by 5.20 points or 0.09 per cent to 5,702.90.
Major gainers were Cipla (1.82 pc), Dr Reddy's Lab (1.56 pc), Tata Motors (1.30 pc), ITC (0.99 pc) and Coal India (0.66 pc).
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 382.19 crore last Friday, as per provisional
data from the stock exchanges.
Asian stocks resumed lower today. Key indices in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore were down between 0.31 and 0.70 per cent.
