Sensex surges by 183 pts on good Q2 results from Infosys
The BSE benchmark Sensex was up by 183 points in early trade on Wendesday on back of substantial gains registered by IT companies following Infosys' positive Q2 results and persistent inflows from foreign funds.
IT bellwether Infosys jumped by 5.45 per cent and was the top gainer from the Sensex pack after company announced its Q2 results before market hours on Wednesday.
The company reported a 9.72 per cent growth in its consolidated net profit to Rs 1,906 crore for the second quarter ended September 30.
Other gainers from the Sensex pack were TCS (up 3.87 per cent), Wipro (3.81 per cent), Jindal Steel (2.78 per cent), Cipla (1.92 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (1.61 per cent).
The Sensex resumed higher at 16,660.43 and shot up further to 16,750.85 before quoting at 16,719.78 at 1015 hours, showing a net gain of 183.31 points, or 1.11 per cent, from its last close.
The NSE's 50-share Nifty Index also moved up by 51.55 points, or 1.04 per cent, to 5,025.90 at 1015 hours.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 114.15 crore yesterday as per provisional figures on the stock exchanges, which also boosted the market sentiment.
In Asian markets, the key benchmark indices in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea rose by about 0.29 per cent to 2.16 per cent, while the indices in Japan and Taiwan fell by by between 0.1 per cent and 0.49 per cent.
