Tata Chem puts off expansion
New Delhi, Nov. 22: Tata Chemicals on Monday said it has put on hold the `3,800 crore expansion plan of its urea manufacturing unit at Babrala, Uttar Pradesh, due to non-availability of gas.
“We have been waiting for gas allocation for our second phase urea expansion plan at Babrala unit, which was scheduled to happen by October-November, this year. As we have not got gas, we are holding our plans,” Tata Chemicals MD, Mr R. Mukundan said.
Meanwhile, the company has announced the launch of the nutrient-based fertiliser ‘Paras Farmoola,’ for which Tata Chemicals will set up two more units to produce nutrient-based fertiliser with an investment of `55 crore each.
Speaking at the launch of the nutrient-based fertiliser, Mr Mukandan said: “We have developed Paras Farmoola for select crops in a specific region based on soil, crop and water sample analysis.”
The company said ‘Paras Farmoola,’is designed to contain macro and micro nutrient as per the requirement of a specific region and requires a comprehensive land survey before its launch in any part of the country.
Last year, the company undertook the debottling exercise of its Babrala urea facility and was awaiting 2.2 mmbtu (million metric British thermal units) gas allocation.
