US sets up panel to probe unfair trade practices

US President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Tuesday to establish a trade enforcement office for investigating unfair trade practices.

The agency would serve as the primary forum within the federal government for the US Trade Representative (USTR) and other agencies to coordinate enforcement of US trade rights under international trade agreements and enforcement of domestic trade laws, Xinhua reported.

According to a White House statement, the office, known as the Interagency Trade Enforcement Centre (ITEC), was established within the office of the USTR.

The panel's director will be designated by US Trade Representative Ron Kirk, with a deputy selected by Commerce Secretary John Bryson.

The office would be mainly supported by the Department of State, Treasury, Justice, Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said the White House.
