Vodafone penalises telemarketers for pesky calls and SMSes
Trai on Thursday said Vodafone has deducted Rs 50,000 from some telemarketers' security deposit for violating guidelines for pesky calls and SMSes and has deposited the amount with the regulator.
"Vodafone penalised the first batch of telemarketers by deducting penalty amount from their security deposits on October 12 2011. Vodafone ... has deposited Rs 50,000 with TRAI in compliance to the regulations," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a statement on Thursday.
Vodafone penalised telemarketers under 'The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010' which came into effect from September 27.
Trai in its regulation has proposed fine of Rs 25,000 on first offence, Rs 75,000 on second offence, Rs 80,000 on third offence, Rs 1,20,000 on fourth, Rs 1,50,000 on fifth and Rs 2,50,000 on sixth offence.
Trai has also directed to withdraw telecom resources of telemarketers for two year on commitment of sixth offence which is making calls or sending unwanted commercial SMS to number registered under fully or partially blocked category.
