Crime against women on upswing
The rate of crimes against women is on the upswing constituting 18.9 per cent of the total IPC crimes in the country. The government data portrays a worrisome picture as the conviction rates for all crimes against women in the country stands at a dismal 26.3 per cent. This includes rape, molestation, cruelty by husbands and relatives, sexual harassment , kidnapping and abduction of women and girls and importation of girls.
MHA calls meet of DGPs, mulls database of rapists
After the nationwide furore over the brutal gangrape incident in the national capital, the Union home ministry has called a special meet with DGPs and chief secretaries of all states and UTs on January 4 to take stock of measures for safety of women across the country and the need to strengthen police response in such cases.
