While Bollywood may have to wait for couturier Ritu Kumar to pick up a project as a costume designer, internationally Kumar has been making waves with her designs in films like Deepa Mehta’s Bollywood Hollywood and son Ashvin Kumar’s Little Terrorist followed by The Forest. Kumar is back with a “different film” in her kitty and this time it’s Deepa Mehta’s ambitious film Midnight’s Children based on Salman Rushdie’s Booker prize-winning novel.

Tweethearts get knotty

A Turkish couple made it official by tweeting “I Do,” in what’s believed to be the world’s first Twitter-hosted wedding. They wrote Evet — the Turkish word for yes — on their Twitter to seal their fate together. This may be a one-off case but weddings are turning techno with Facebook, Twitter, Skype and video services, and tech freaks swear that apart from being an exciting idea, there are many benefits of virtual weddings.

Is sleeveless too revealing?

A woman journalist was reportedly not allowed to enter an exhibition at the Bombay High Court just because the sleeveless top she was wearing was deemed immodest. Last year a similar incident invited sharp reactions when two Czech nationals were stopped from entering the court and were fined. A notice was promptly put up asking the security personnel to “only allow litigants wearing modest dresses in sober colours”.

Is profane the new chic? Recently a passenger was asked by an American Airlines pilot to drape a shawl over the shirt because her T-shirt bore a four-letter expletive. An Indian student was barred from a Delta flight because of his T-shirt that mocked federal security agents and included the words, “Terrists gonna kill us all”.
