Great Kolkata gold rush for Dhanteras

There was tremendous excitement over the U.S. presidential election at the American Center in Kolkata. Huge cut outs of both presidential candidates greeted visitors when they entered the Lincoln Room which by then looked like the oval office inside White House.

Passengers call for fare hike too

The bus operators’ demand for minimum fare hike following the rise in diesel prices by Rs 5 per litre received a warm support from the people of Kolkata. The daily commuters, who faced tremendous transportation woes due to the indefinite private bus strike called by the Joint Council of Bus Syndicate and Bengal Bus Syndicate, on Monday welcomed their decision of Rs 1 hike and criticised the state government’s stance on it.

Queen’s Hall upper gallery thrown open to public

The upper floor gallery of the Queen’s Hall at Victoria Memorial was thrown open to public on Tuesday. The gallery contains a series of 12 paintings which depicts the important events in the life of Queen Victoria from her accession to the throne till her death.
