The Left Front has written to the state home secretary Basudeb Banerjee demanding administration’s intervention to stop the ongoing wave of violence against Left Front workers.

Angry Trinamul Congress supporters on Tuesday evening went berserk attacking CPI(M) offices in retaliation to the assault on state finance minister Amit Mitra in Delhi by SFI activists. The SFI supporters organised a protest at Planning Commission against Sudipto Gupta’s death in police custody As soon as Mr Mitra’s manhandling was aired by television channels, a wave of attacks took place at CPI(M) offices by outraged Trinamul workers.

A Class IV student was injured when hot tea fell on him following a tussle with a school staff who in turn thrashed him. The incident took place at a government-aided school, Sarada Prasad Institute, at Bidhannagar Road in Ultadanga on Monday morning.

Soon after the death of the Kolkata deputy mayor’s husband in a road accident on the Basanti highway, two persons were killed on Saturday morning when their car fell into a roadside canal there after it lost control. Another passenger of the car was injured.

A doctor and three staff of a hospital in Burdwan were beaten up by angry relatives of a patient and others alleging of medical negligence. A mob went on the rampage after the death of Abhijit Mondal in Kalna sub-divisional hospital on Saturday morning. They assaulted orthopaedic surgeon Dr Arup Das who fell down after being punched. Three other employees of the hospital were also beaten.

As both the Mamata Banerjee government and the state election commission refused to budge from their respective stands, the standoff over the panchayat polls seemed to be heading for a court battle.
