After the ghastly gangrape incident in Delhi in December, a big debate has ensued about lowering the age of juveniles as one of the accused was all of 16 but was the “deadliest” of them all. The intensity of criminal and sexual energy in this boy has jolted everybody into sitting up and reviewing their notion of the age of sexual maturity.

But when Lord Rama worshipped Durga during the Ashwin Navratri and sought her blessings prior to the war with Ravana, he lent celebrity value, as it were, to the Sharad/Ashwin Navratri which is celebrated around October each year, relegating the spring-time Navratri to second place in popular estimation.

Just as there are 40 days of Lent starting with Ash Wednesday, and culminating in Good Friday, the day that marks the death of Jesus Christ, Christians also observe another set of 40 days from Easter, when Jesus rose from the dead, till it is believed, He ascended to Heaven, promising His disciples that He would be with them till the end of time (Matthew 28:20).

There is a lot of talk going on these days about “astral journeys”. People just lie down and imagine they are flying. This is plain hallucination.
