US nuke business will have to wait for Japan
American companies will not be able to enter the multi-billion-dollar Indian nuclear energy market even if Parliament hurriedly passes the nuclear liability bill because two major US firms in the business, General Electric and Westinghouse, are either partly or wholly owned by Japanese companies. So the US-Japanese consortium of GE-Hitachi or the Toshiba-owned Westinghouse will need to wait for Tokyo to conclude a bilateral nuclear pact with New Delhi before they can begin supplying equipment or technology for reactors in India.
10-yr-old boy electrocuted
A 10-year-old boy was electrocuted in the capital when he was playing with his friends in Trilokpuri area on Sunday.
The police said that the incident occurred near a park in Trilokpuri area. This is the tenth such incident this monsoon. The deceased, identified as Vijay Kumar, was playing with his friends in Indra Park in Block-12 when he got electrocuted.
‘Killer’ Bluelines to stay, avoid venues
Joining the growing list of projects having missed their deadline, the planned phasing out of the Blueline buses before the Commonwealth Games is likely to be the next in line. With the manufacturers of the low-floor buses having expressed inability to provide the vehicles, Delhi government is now looking at altering the routes of Blueline buses after failing to phase them out to avoid embarrassment.
PCO-owner gets relief from HC
The beautification drive for Commonwealth Games proved costly to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw of the Delhi high court told the civic agency to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to a physically challenged man, Satish Manchanda, for allegedly demolishing his PCO booth in Delhi University.
‘Cave-ins due to groundwater overuse’
With the rain beating down hard on the capital this season, the city roads have been caving-in left, right and centre. Even the posh New Delhi area has seen a spate of such incidents raising questions over the quality of roads, particularly as that they are being re-done and improved for the Commonwealth Games.

More Metro trips for Tuesday rush

Yamuna swells, evacuation starts
Following more rains in the capital and additional release of water by Haryana into it, the Yamuna continued to flow above the danger mark on Sunday, while the government began evacuation of people from the low-lying areas in the city.
Resentment in BJP’s youth wing
Resentment is brewing in the BJP’s youth wing. The newly-appointed youth wing chief Mr Anurag Thakur has shunted almost all the office bearers of the previous team headed by Mr Amit Thakar, who belongs to Gujarat. This has led to resentment among a majority section of youth leaders who are of the view that the decision to bring an entirely new team was taken only to “get rid of” members who were inducted by Mr Thakur’s predecessor.
PM’s daughter to write biography of parents
Daman Singh, the writer daughter of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is planning to write a book about her parents which will “explore the experiences that make them what they are”.
