City MLA gets 3-yr jail for attempt to murder

Delhi MLA Dayanand Chandila, who represents Rajouri Garden Assembly seat, his son Megh Raj Chandila and two supporters were on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi court for attempting to kill a person following a dispute relating to money lending nearly seven years ago. The court, however, granted them bail.

MCD seals mall at Metro station

The MCD on Tuesday sealed the mall operating out of the Inderlok station of the Delhi Metro saying it did not have any prior approval. The DMRC called the action unilateral and a “contempt of court” because they were restrainment orders from the judicial as well as administrative authorities.

14-yr boy hangs self in S. Delhi

Mercury at new 10-yr June 8 low

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature for June 8 was recorded at 26.9 degrees Celsius, with the previous low being 25.7 degrees Celsius in 2000. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.1 degrees Celsius. Though it did not rain heavily, slight drizzle through the morning accompanied with moist, cold winds left the city pleasantly surprised, particularly at this time of the year.

Sacked over food, jawan reinstated

Fifteen-years-ago, an Army jawan was dismissed for disobeying superior’s order to eat food. His dismissal has now been set aside by the Armed Forces Tribunal.
Signalman Ram Kumar Maurya was summarily court martialed by his officiating Commanding officer for “disobeying a lawful command given by his superior officer” as he refused to have food after being punished for another charge of indiscipline against him.

Hawala operator is booked by ED

The Enforcement Directorate has now booked alleged international hawala operator Naresh Jain under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities (COFEPOSA) Act for allegedly laundering international drug money.

After landing in hot waters with his party for writing to Congress MPs seeking to mobilise them against the caste-Census, Union minister of state for home, Ajay Maken on Tuesday “took stock of the ongoing house-listing and Census enumeration exercise in New Delhi”. The MoS undertook an “on-the-spot, in field interaction with Census officials, enumerators and people in general” in the R.K. Puram area of New Delhi.
