Jharkhand’s political riddle refuses to emerge from the depths it sank following the BJP’s threat of withdrawing support from the JMM-led coalition government over a fortnight ago.

The Congress and the JVM may have lost the 2009 Assembly polls in Jharkhand — more so because the two pre-poll allies did not try to cobble up a coalition with the numbers needed to rule — but the two resurgent parties certainly had not allowed the ruling post-poll coalition of the JMM and the BJP to win those polls.

While the stalemate between the BJP and the JMM continued on Friday over the formation of government in Jharkhand, the Congress has dropped ample hints that the party is now thinking of demanding President’s Rule in the state.
